"Why I Hate School But Love Education"

  1. I love this video - very moving. What are your thoughts? What strikes you most deeply from the video?

  2. Amazing! Really makes you think. I think the part that struck me (especially as a teacher) as if your answer is out-the-box, we automatically mark it wrong. It is so true. We really need to be encouraging out-of-the-box thinkers not penalising them!

I really feel quite sad that people have the thought of school as a lock if education is the key. "Education is about inspiring one's mind not just filling their head".

  3. Hi Di, yes I would agree with you on that - too often teachers constrict learners thinking by narrowing down their answers to 'the' answer when more often than not there could be many answers because of the fact that each learner has their unique perspective. I have been very generous in my class discussions this year in saying 'yes correct' by justifying a particular learners answer or opinion instead of shutting it down straight out.
If we follow a memo for life how will new ideas form!?

    1. Exactly, Ian. By shutting learners down with an 'No, incorrect,' they are less likely to try again. Phrases like 'Getting there, who can help add to that answer?' are much more constructive as they send the message that everyone's thinking is in a particular journey and if we work together, we can achieve anything.

  6. Good speech and true to the extent that if you don't educate yourself you will be used by others towards fulfilling their destiny...so rather love school - it's part of the chain that connects to the end result of being truthful to the talents and gifts that our Father has bestowed on us... and He will require you to answer for either burying or applying that what He has borne into you as servant to the world, not to enrich yourself in wordly goods that cannot be take with you after death. Jesus is not equal to man's efforts to serve (like those humans mentioned), He is the only example to fulfill the command of serving each other. Thanks for the reminder, Ian!
