  1. Great resource, thanks, Ian!

Interactive Whiteboards are incredible, but very few teachers receive training, and they are then used as glorified backdrops for projectors! How can we encourage teachers to WANT to learn about them?

  2. I think by giving them a sniff at what they can do and how much fun could be had with them. They add to the teaching experience in so many ways. I think for many there is a techno gap or phobia that needs to be fulled. There is a brilliant beginner course at Bergvliet High school for Smart boards I think every teacher should go on a course similar to this.

  3. Ian I have actually used the interactive whiteboard for the first time during my practical at Kirstenhof (without training), it is very useful but many teachers refrain from using it as I think it seem to be time consuming in setting it up and getting it to work. It is much easier to pick up a whiteboard marker and draw or write an illustration on the board. I think that some teachers also shy away from using technology in general.

  4. I LOVE interactive whiteboards. They are great for both the teachers and learners within the classroom. I think it provides a great learning opportunity for our visual and kinesthetic learners!

I also think that it is a fantastic way of playing online educational games with the learners. Wonderful incidental learning happens with these boards.

I also find that there are some helpful guides on YouTube!

  5. Hi Di.

It is great to hear that you too enjoy using whiteboards. I agree with you I also think that they are great for both teachers and learners. Having a visual such as the visuals that whiteboards can generate make learning so much more realistic for learners.

Online educational games as you say can be played and displayed on the big screen so that all of the learners can be involved and this becomes an excellent interactive opportunity for the class.
You are right YouTube clips are very useful! I have used many YouTube clips during my prac to enhance learning, it is fun for the learners and it brings real life illustrations to the class room.

    Thanks for your comments!
